Fatou's Perspective

The 2021-2022 Global Peace Fellowship was awarded to Fatou Sow. Fatou is a proud native of Detroit, MI with Senegalese roots. She graduated from Howard University in 2019, and she graduated this past May from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) with a Master of Arts in International Relations. Fatou is passionate about youth development, and she believes that all children need some form of exposure to see who they want to become in life.

During her second semester of graduate school, Fatou started offering freelance communication services to students, businesses, and non-profit organizations. To-date, she’s gained over 40 clients and realized her niche for helping others improve their communication skills. Her love for travel, writing, and reading pushed her to also start a personal blog called TwentyPlusTou which documents her life through travel, books, and Black culture in her twenties.

One of Fatou’s main goals is to bridge the gap between young students in the African diaspora through social dimensions such as professional development, mentorship, and study abroad. Communications is at the core of all she does, and she hopes to broaden her skills in fields like fintech, business, and economics. To her, travel is the best way to learn in this world and she hopes that students can see themselves in a new light when they are exposed to such opportunities.
